The Marine Seismology and Geoacousitcs Group - MOVIES
The following is a set of movies from the Marine Seismology and
Geoacoustics Group at
WHOI using data output from a FORTRAN program using the
TIME-DOMAIN-FINITE-DIFFERENCE method for calculating Synthetic Seismograms.
The finite-difference program outputs data as seismograms (time-series) and as snapshots of the
waveforms in a depth and range grid. Please see Ralph Stephen's
selected publications for further references
on this technique.
This section contains a series of movies from the FINITE-DIFFERENCE program.
The data from the FINITE-DIFFERENCE program snapshots for SHEAR and
COMPRESSIONAL waves is used to create these movies. A C program was written by Tom Bolmer,
modeled after an earlier program written by Willaim S. Little. This program outputs a PPM
formatted file for each time frame snapshot. The series of PPM time frames are then used
by the public domain progam MPEG_ENCODE to create an MPEG-1 formatted file.
